Buying power upgrades from us comes with a phone consultation so we can custom tune your BAC4000. Our controllers come with the superior APT display and thumb controller which give you up to 9 power settings and the way that the tune is natively installed into the BAC controller is superior to all EggRider tunes which perform an override of the tune inside the BAC controller which adds latency into the system. EBMX worked with some of the best professional ASI tuners (and EV Racers) in the world perfecting these tunes, they are 2nd to none. When you ride this system you will be blown away!
Charged Cycle Works Opinion on BAC4000 vs BAC8000 vs 72v vs 60v 50ah
We ride our bikes pretty hard, and we value CONTROLLABLE power OVER maximum power. Max power with battery upgrades on these 115lb bikes is uncontrollable in most riding situations, and potentially dangerous for inexperienced riders. 15kW is fun to read about in specs, but the fact is it's just not controllable at those power outputs in normal riding situations. Our sweet spot is the BAC4000 + the new EBMX 50ah 60v battery, this is an ideal setup which almost doubles the range of an OEM surron and has more power than you'll need (you'll likely only use 50-60% of the power output from this setup in most conditions). Almost all customers (ourselves included) run our tunes at 2,3,4 (out of 5) the majority of the time rarely using the full power settings.
BE SURE TO WATCH THE INSTALL VIDEO BELOW BEFORE PURCHASE IF YOU PLAN TO DIY INSTALL SPECIALIZED TOOLS AND GLUE ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM A BATTERY BYPASS
- ASI BAC4000 Controller set up and specially tuned for SurRon 8.5kw Power.
- Plug-and-play Harness with custom made cable extensions to better fit the controller on the frame.
- Custom made mounting brackets for the BAC4000.
- APT display screen and thumb controller for up to 9 power adjustments
- BMS bypass cables
BMS bypass lead and detailed instructions are provided by EBMX and SurRon Mod Shop to perform a BMS Bypass on your stock SurRon 60V battery here.
WARNING: The battery bypass procedure is very dangerous, a mistake could cause a Lithium Ion fire (like all those Tesla Videos you have seen) or worse electrocution! This procedure should only be performed by a license electrician and Charged Cycle Works is not responsible for any damage or injuries or death caused by this procedure.
Tools Needed to Install:
- Non-Corrosive Silicon
- HD wire crimper
- Extra heat shrink 1 inch

What makes the EBMX tune better than others?
First, we use the APT display which is a physically larger LCD with much more information on it and easier to use. What isn't seen or obvious in this difference is how different the tune is. The tunes developed by EBMX are deep/native tunes that actually live inside the ASI controller and these were developed by a team of ASI professionals who have many years of experience racing EV's and developing ASI tunes. These are the the best tunes that can be made on the ASI controllers. In contrast EggRider tuners are building the tune files and loading them onto the EggRider which then performs an "override" of the native tune on the controller. This translates into a less responsive and less powerful tune, but these tunes are easier to create and load into the EggRider which is why they are so popular.
Will installing this kit void my warranty?
Yes, installing this kit will void the warranty on your SurRon Light Bee Battery, if it is still under a warranty period.
What is the difference between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Upgrade Kits?
The key difference between the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Power Upgrades is which battery you are using or going to use in your Light Bee. The Stage 1 Upgrade is designed to work with a BMS bypassed 60v SurRon Battery, and can work with either a BAC4000 or a BAC8000. The Stage 2 Upgrade is designed to work with a 72v Battery.
What Kit should I get the BAC4000 or the BAC8000?
The BAC4000 is perfect for the 60v SurRon BMS Bypass upgrade. The BAC8000 Upgrade is specifically designed for people who plan to invest in a 72v Battery either now or down the road. This means – that you do not have to upgrade your ASI controller again. The BAC4000 is compatible with 72v, however their are some advantages such as larger heat sink and additional power that come with the BAC8000.
Will doing a bypass decrease the life of my battery?
Yes, this may decrease the life of your battery. It depends on a lot of factors exactly how much this will decrease the life of your battery, e.g. age and health of the battery before the bypass, correct maintenance and care for the battery after the bypass, etc. Lithium Ion batteries lifetime are primarily affected by heat and number of charge cycles. If you ride for long periods at full throttle with a high power tune, you will likely reduce the life of your battery because the BMS bypass allows a faster discharge rate and increase in temperature. However, your right hand has full control over how fast you discharge your battery, small sprints of power are not damaging like extended periods of high power can be.
How much power can I expect to get from this upgrade?
The Stage 1 tune is between 7.5kW and 8kW. This is a (75-90%) increase in power. With this upgrade you get significantly more torque and acceleration at the rear wheel, and your max top speed will depend on the rear sprocket size you are running (i.e. 42-64 teeth are possible)
The Stage 2 tune gives you approximately 14.5kW. This is a (175-300%) increase in power. With this upgrade you get almost twice as much torque and acceleration at the rear wheel as the stage 1 kit, and your max top speed will depend on the rear sprocket size you are running ( ie 42-64 teeth are possible)
Can I turn regen on or off in the tune?
YES! Some people like regen, some do not, we can not only turn it on/off but also set it to a specific speed you would like it used above. For example if you don't want regen below 10mph for technical terrain we can set it to only be used above 10mph.
I do not live near an SurRon Mod Shop supplier. Can I do the upgrade myself?
If at all possible please allow Charged Cycle Works located near Ogden, Utah (or other Surron Mod Shops) to do the installation for you. If you are unable to provide your bike to a SurRon Mod Shop supplier, then you may install it yourself. Please view the installation video below and ensure you have the proper tools and are confident in your skills prior to ordering. If you are not confident in installing this yourself then we highly recommend you do not. This installation REQUIRES a very large (and expensive) wire crimping tool and other tools and glue that you might not have and will be required to purchase yourself in order to perform this installation safely.
*Neither EBMX Pty Ltd, nor Charged Cycle Works, accepts liability for any DIY Battery bypasses or installations on our range of ASI and SurRon modifications. Although we supply fitting instructions with our kits, we do not recommend that you install the equipment yourself. If you purchase the kit to install yourself, you can contact us if you have a problem and arrange for remote support at a rate of $75 USD per hour. Email us at email@example.com for more information.
