Introducing Formula E-Moto Brakes

Formula E-Moto - NEW ERA, NEW BRAKE

If you're paying attention to new bikes hitting the market such as the Altis Sigma, Eride 3.0/SR, and Talaria MX5 you've probably seen that they have left mineral based Mountain Bike brakes behind and moved to more capable DOT 4 based brakes capable of more power with better heat handling and dissapation.

But, what if you don't want a new bike?  Can you upgrade to a better braking system on your existing Surron, Talaria, Eride, or other eMoto bike?  You can now, Introducing the New Formula E-Moto Brakes!

Tailor made for the new breed of electric motorbikes, the Formula E-Moto brake combines our expertise in mountain bike and motorcycle brake engineering. The E-moto brake uses a motorcycle master cylinder and lever together with an enhanced version of the four-piston Cura 4 brake caliper to provide the right amount of power and finesse (without being so powerful that your brakes lock up with too much pressure).

  • Designed specifically for the new generation of e-Motos
  • Motorcycle master cylinder and lever
  • Enhanced four-piston Cura 4 mountain bike calipers
  • Designed for use with DOT 4 fluid for enhanced performance
  • Forged and anodized aluminum master cylinder and calipers for strength and durability
  • Semi-metallic brake pads included!
  • Extra long brake hose to ensure fit. (Shortening may be required)
  • Upgraded to Sintered Pads

Sintered Brake Pads Available as an Upgrade

When it comes to choosing the right brake pads for your eMoto, the decision often boils down to two popular options: semi-metallic or sintered. Both types of pads are designed to deliver reliable braking performance, but they excel in different conditions and cater to unique riding styles. Semi-metallic pads are known for their smooth stopping power and rotor-friendly design, while sintered pads offer unmatched durability and heat resistance for extreme riding.

  • Semi-Metallic (comes standard with brakes):
    • Best for recreational riders or those in dry conditions.
    • Ideal for lighter bikes where weight and rotor wear are priorities.
  • Sintered:
    • Better for downhill riders, enduro, racing, or all-weather conditions.
    • Essential for riders frequently braking hard over long descents.
    • Can cause faster rotor wear
  •  What about the Rotor, should I upgrade those too?

YES, as the rotor is a crucial piece in your brake upgrade path.  Our recommended rotor to pair with a brake upgrade is 2.3mm thickness and a minimum of 220mm diameter.  The primary reason is for heat resistance and dissipation.  The more mass and diameter in your rotors, the better they will handle heat build up and heat dissipation which is extremely important on your eMoto bike.

The EBMX 250mm 2.3mm rotors are some of the best on the market and would be an excellent match to the Formula eMoto brakes to handle the additional heat these brakes are capable of pumping into your rotors.

Are the brake pads any bigger though? I don’t see the size listed anywhere
